I'm not the only Jane, of course, but I am the only Jane designing and shipping jumpsuits from my home in Los Angeles where I live with my husband and our 2 year-old daughter, Georgia.
I had planned to launch The Only Jane with the perfect jumpsuit in early March 2020. Then COVID-19 came and I, like every person in the world, had to change my plans. In late March, after a moment of pause, I started selling Jump One in partnership with No Kid Hungry, a national organization helping to get millions of children the meals they're missing due to school closures and beyond. In the months that followed, I sold almost all of the original 300 jumpsuits and raised more than $36k for No Kid Hungry. I'm currently working with my Los Angeles factory on recutting Jump One in my best-selling colors. New washes are finally here.
The truth: No one needs Jump One. No one needed it before the virus, and certainly no one needs one today. But my jumpsuit is a thing of quality and style. It fits and feels nice and I put a lot of thought into designing it to make life easier. Maybe women want that right now? I believe there is value in the joy and comfort that fine, highly functional clothing can bring us. Providing this gives me an opportunity to connect with all of you, which is great for my own well-being, too.
Now, if you're still reading, here is the more traditional bit about my professional background:
I grew up in Los Angeles selling jeans at my family's Ron Herman stores. In New York, I was a fashion editor at Vogue, The New York Times: T Magazine and Travel + Leisure. I also worked in-house at classic brands like Gap and Theory. I am a writer, creative director, and the co-founder of JeanStories.com, a style site about everything denim. When I became a mother in 2018, I started wearing jumpsuits for their utilitarian elegance and ease. My goal was to design one that fits perfectly. So good, you want to wear it every day. The Only Jane is the culmination of everything I've learned about clothes and what it means to really live in them. I hope Jump One makes you feel great and ready to do what you – and only you – can do.
Stay safe and thank you for reading.
